Jonathan L. Lauer
Founder, Managing Partner
Mr. Lauer has spent 17 years in the healthcare industry, driving sales growth, product development, and competitive strategy in a variety of medical device and software companies ranging from startups to large corporations, such Hewlett Packard and GE. He has functional experience in marketing, sales and finance.
Prior to founding the Healthcare Performance Alliance, Jonathan was VP of Marketing for Spacelabs Healthcare, helping architect and implement the turnaround of an organization that had experienced heavy losses in the late 1990's and early 2000's and subsequently experienced exceptional profit growth and won multiple industry awards for technology excellence and customer satisfaction in the hospital patient monitoring market. He has a passion for finding innovative, practical approaches for solving problems and improving the health of businesses.
Mr. Lauer has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a mechanical engineering degree from Lehigh University. A native of Pittsburgh, he currently lives in the Seattle area.
Steven M. Belli, CPA
Director, Cost Reduction Services
Mr. Belli has run companies and consulted both within and outside the healthcare industry for over 25 years. He is experienced in strategic planning, turnarounds, systems life cycle planning, best practice development, operational reviews, start-ups and liquidity events.
More than 50% of his time is spent with clients, assisting them with strategic planning and the roll out of their strategic sourcing project. Mr. Belli’s main role is to work with clients through the life of a project to assure that they have the resources needed to achieve the best possible results and in developing strategy to optimize savings over time.
Mr. Belli was formerly Chief Operating Officer of Titan Technologies, directly responsible for product engineering, professional consulting services and the finance division. He directed all aspects of strategic planning, change management, banking relationships and investor/public relations. Prior to Titan, Mr. Belli was a partner with Weiser LLP and Co., a large New York area CPA firm in which he founded and ran the management consulting division, which helped clients maximize profitability through the implementation of systems, best practices, strategic planning and cost reduction.
Mr. Belli holds a BBA in Accounting from Pace University.
Samuel H. Steinberg, Ph.D., FACHE
Director, Healthcare Strategy
Dr. Steinberg has extensive experience in healthcare strategy, hospital operations and executive management. He has served in various senior management roles for five academic medical centers, including CEO of Hahnemann University Hospital and The Graduate Hospital, and has served on the faculty of five colleges and universities.
As chief operating officer of the Department of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, Sam reorganized the departmental administrative structure, improving clinical and financial operations. During his seven-year tenure as executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Sam managed $100 million in new construction and renovation to rebuild the entire campus and directed the creation of a captive insurance program, resulting in over $10 million in savings.
As a strategy consultant for a wide variety of small and large hospitals, he has helped independent hospitals determine and evaluate strategic alternatives, providing advisory services to senior managers and boards of directors related to mergers & acquisition options.
Sam has a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Penn State University, an MBA in health care administration from Temple University, and a doctorate in organization and management from Capella University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Jeffery Tarte
Director, Revenue Cycle Services
Mr. Tarte is in his 31st year of consulting within the health care industry. He has expertise across all areas of revenue cycle management, IT strategic planning, and the use of enabling technologies to improve the implementation of business strategy. He has twice served as the acting CIO of major academic medical centers, and spent 17 years in “Big 6” consulting firms where he served as a Partner.
Prior responsibilities have included major project initiatives with health care providers throughout the U.S. and abroad. He is a frequent speaker at local, regional, and national forums. Mr. Tarte had the distinction of being named by CIO Magazine as one of the Top 100 CIO’s in America in 1990 , and now serves as a business advisor to healthcare executives across the country. He has authored a number of articles related to information technology, and co-authored Information Technology for Integrated Health Systems, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Mr. Tarte holds a degree in Economics from the College of Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Illinois. He lives in a northern suburb outside of Charlotte, NC, where he also serves as Mayor.
